The Surgeon's Vision, The Engineer's Craft: A Steady-Handed Glimpse into the Microparticle Planetscape
The Surgeon's Vision, The Engineer's Craft: A Steady-Handed Glimpse into the Microparticle Planetscape
Erika Wang, Liz Calle
In this study, we developed the HEMA patch, a hydrogel-encapsulated microparticle array. This technology is designed to deliver combination therapy with precise timing, presenting new possibilities for cardiac regeneration following a heart attack. The microparticle array is engineered to release different drugs, labeled in purple, blue, and yellow, in combination and with varying release kinetics, all within the pre-patterned microparticle arrays. The image provides a unique perspective, akin to gazing through a telescope at what appears to be a planetary surface but is, in fact, a microcosm of particles. This view was captured by a steady-handed surgical resident through the microscope eyepiece during the drying process of nanoliter-scaled protein compounds inside the microparticles following nano-dispensing.
