The image is an implant designed to slowly release a drug for over a year. It is made from active pharmaceutical ingredients that have been self-assembled into a solid structure from an injectable liquid formulation. By using high-resolution microscopy to get detailed information about the implant’s structure on multiple length-scale, this image helps us understand what variables determine the size, shape, and porosity of implants that are self-assembled after injection.
