The image of a slow-release drug delivery implant was taken with the hope to gain the ability to one day be able to assemble multiple types of drugs together into a single implant to enable multi-stage or pulsatile release. This image will help improve the comprehension of the variables that determine the size, shape, and porosity of implants that are self-assembled after injection. By learning more about how to self-assemble different kinds of solid structures, it will help to one day make life easier for patients by replacing surgical implantation procedures with simple needle injections.
